Day 2 – Australian Sides Championships
Day two saw a very determined Tasmanian outfit hit the greens today. The men were out to claim their first victory for the tournament and the women wanted to replicate their previous morning’s performance. The Tassie men did just that coming out of the blocks firing against Northern Territory to claim a massive 91-29 shot victory to claim their first overall honours with big victories on two rinks. Robert McMullen’s rink of Simon Zaporozec, Darren Monks and Alex Elwell lead all the way to mark a convincing victory of 25 shots over their opponents, while Lee Schraner’s rink scored the highest rink win by 39 shots.
The Tassie women followed suit and did indeed replicate their previous morning’s performance with both Elworthy and Redshaw’s rinks claiming big victories to give the women from the Apple Isle a 16 shot victory. The women’s team then regrouped to try and carry their momentum into the afternoon game against tough opponents Western Australia. With scores almost level for most of the game, Tassie were able to just always keep their nose in front. With a very instrumental home crowd barracking the Tasmanians home the girls managed to lift a peg or two and get the job done with a 10 shot victory.
This win marks three out of four for the Tassie women and puts them equal first on wins with New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. A full ladder is below this article.
The Tassie men were also determined to take their morning’s momentum into the afternoon to come away with two from two from todays games, and that they did with a magnificent win over Western Australia in epic style. The scores were close all the way with Lee Schraner’s rink of Mark Strochnetter, Chris Dudman and Aaron Page on fire throughout to get another big win by 18 shots. White’s rink also won and McMullen’s rink got a draw.
Our Tasmanian Teams will now play ACT in the morning and South Australian in the afternoon at the South Burnie Bowls Club from 9am.
