The women’s Pairs and Fours Tasmanian Titles concluded today at the Spreyton Bowls Club, proudly supported by the Devonport City Council.  The Fours Final was the first one to get finished with Rebecca Van Asch’s team of Jenny Redshaw (Penguin), Kim Saunders (Invermay) and Vicki Winley (Invermay) taking the Title from Lyn Triffit (Rosny Park), Yvonne Buckley (Sandy Bay), Rosie Geeves (Howrah), Jeanette Lane (Claremont) 26-15.  Vicki Winley came in as a replacement for Gaylene Elsworthy who was admitted to hospital for appendicitis after the first days sectional play.

The match started off very close with scores locked at 6 all after 6 ends, and then after 12 ends with only 4 shots in front the experience of Van Asch’s team, boasting three State Players shone through winning the next 5 ends to go ahead 26-9.  Van Asch came agonisingly close to taking out the Grand Slam of State Titles after also winning the Singles and Triples (Along with Saunders and Nicole Smith), earlier in the year, however she was defeated in the semi final of the pairs with Winley the day before.  This is the first Tasmanian Title for both Winley and Redshaw.

Then Triffitt and Lane teamed together in the afternoons pairs final against the ever experienced Mary Beaumont (Latrobe) and Judy Reeve (Rosny Park).  With no more than 3 shots separating both teams in the early stages of the match Triffitt and Lane made up for the days earlier disappointed to avenge their loss in the fours to take out Tasmanian Women’s Pairs Title 22-15.  This is also Lane’s first Tasmanian Title.
