Master titles to McKay and Daly
Fred McKay, Peter Zoon and Andrew Appleyard claim Michael Hill Memorial Master Triples trophy. Carina Daly, Judy Hope and Kath Wootton take home the Women’s Master Triples.prize.
The two events were played at the North Launceston Bowls Club in typical spring weather which included wind showers, hail and brilliant sunshine.
The McKay triple won through to the final from the next best position after five rounds of competition in Section 1, followed by a knock out semi-final defeating the Adam White, J Brown, Aaron Page combination 22-18.
They were again too strong in the afternoon final with a 9 shot margin over runners up R Donohue, D Berwick and Chris Dudman.
The Michael Hill Memorial medallions were presented to the winners by Diane Hill.
Three sections (18 teams) completed the round robin section of the Women’s competition with the section winners ( Barbara Gleeson, Leona Smith, Margaret Pearce) and the next best (Carina Daly) going on to the knock out semi-finals. The Daly, Hope, Wootton combination proved too strong for Gleeson, Purton and Hill 29-18, while Pearce, Zoon and Archer cemented their place in the final with a ten shot margin over Smith, Geeves and Lane.
In the afternoon final Daly, Wootton and Hope skipped to an early lead which thery maintained for the 25 ends. Final scores saw them with 13 shots to spare and the Women’s Master Triples title.
