The AO field is starting to take shape after day one of Bendigo qualifying...

Bundoora’s Nick McIntyre and Barooga’s Keith Lindsay will return to the Australian Open next week chasing further glory after successfully qualifying for the main draw of the men’s singles in Bendigo yesterday.

Fresh off last year’s tournament, which saw both players reach the fourth round respectively, McIntyre and Lindsay will saddle up for a successive crack at the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest tournament after winning their respective play-offs.

Joining the duo in the main field was four-time Australian Open finalist Barrie Lester, Australian under-25 star Dylan Fisher, Pine Rivers trio Robert Wild, Aaron Hewson and Michael Brown, as well as World Indoor qualifier Geoff Maskell.

Among the big names falling by the wayside include reigning NSW Open under-25 champion Chris Green, Greenslopes young gun Ben Twist, and up-and-coming Bundaberg sensation Kurt Brown.

The men’s pairs and women’s triples will be staged on Thursday, with the women’s pairs to be played on Friday.
