Sudden death Decider gives Tassie the Trophy.

31.01.10

Tasmania side clinches the Trophy in a last end cliff hanger.

Both Senior and Junior sides were successful in their quest to wrest the trophies from the grasp of the Victorians. For the first time since the inception of the competition in 1963 the long time Vic winning streak was broken. The teams tied on the last occasion this annual series was played in Victorian, at Bundoora in 2008.

The Tasmanian Women's Team fought out the final of the three test series today at Geelong West in a sudden death decider to win the Trophy.

The first test played on Saturday resulted in a win for the Tassie girls - but this result was reversed in the afternoon game. The final test played this morning was a tight  affair with both sides giving their all. With two rinks decided and a two shot buffer for the Tassie Tigers, Gaylene Elsworthy, Maxine Viney, Judy Reeve and Kim Saunders played a cliff hanger last end to tie with G. Edwards 17 all and give the islanders an exciting win and the trophy. A further game description can be found on the Victorian website.
