State Singles Review

The first three rounds of the singles have been completed under testing conditions due to smoke, heat & quick greens at some venues. Here is a quick summary of what happened.

Women’s Singles

Lyn Triffitt is on target to defend her crown after winning three games yesterday defeating Bronny King in the third round. Kim Saunders will be her opponent after she accounted for Rae Simpson, a top three days of bowls for Saunders. Peri Buckley is the next player through to the Quarter Finals defating Gail Thow. Buckley will meet Bree Godfrey after she defeated Janet Rutherford.

The bottom half of the draw sees Nadine Seabourne through to play Amity Booth. Seabourne defeated C Brooks whilst Booth defeated Vicki Winley. The last quarter final will be between Annie Lewis & Alison Venn. Lewis had a very close game against Yvonne Buckley whilst Venn was able to comfortably account for Carol Bannister

Men’s Singles

Josh Appleyard played very well in his three matches defeating defending champion Lee Schraner in the second round and previous winner David Genford in the third round. He will play Luke Richardson who won his third round match by 1 shot over Josh Mabb. Michael Rankin was too strong in the two matches he played and will now meet the ever consistent Steve Graf. Sam Springer was too strong for his opponents and will now meet Taelyn Male who defeated Michael Taylor. The last game in the top section of the draw sees Mick Sweeney play Shane Baker. Sweenye defeated Leigh Munnings whilst Baker had to play three games, defeating Patrick Oldham in his last match.

Rob Pyke is also through to the Round of 16 where he will meet Gene Ayton. Pyke defeated Tom Westlake whilst Ayton defeated Lucas Howell. Brad Sculthorpe got over David McCormick and will now play Scott Summers who defeated Michael Hughes. The next match could be the best of the Round of 16 with both players being previous winners. Tim Douce will take on Rob McMullen with Douce defeating Jarrah Allan & McMullen defeating Gavin Cleary. The last two players will be Grant Chamberlain who overcome Heath Seabourne and Peter Bannister who came through a tough section of the draw defeating Connor Munnings & Greg Douce
